Hacktoberfest 2022 at LocalStack

LocalStack participated in Hacktoberfest 2022, a month-long open-source program to promote and bolster open-source contribution and collaboration. Hacktoberfest is now behind us, and we want to thank all our contributors for putting forward significant contributions and making this year’s Hacktoberfest a successful one for LocalStack! Hacktoberfest 2022 allowed us to support new-time contributors and expand our community while engaging with contributors across various experience levels!

This year’s Hacktoberfest focused on LocalStack, LocalStack Docs, LocalStack Samples & Terraform Samples, with not just code-based contributions but also no-code contributions like documentation, design, bug triage, and more! During this year’s Hacktoberfest, we received 21 contributions from 11 contributors. We also organized our first contributor-focused meetup through LocalStack Community Events to help new contributors get started with contributing to LocalStack! If you still need to check it out, have a look at the session recording on our YouTube channel.

Hacktoberfest contributions

All contributors will receive a limited edition LocalStack schwag to celebrate their contributions! Demur Nodia will be receiving the Best Contribution schwag for his work on GenerateRandom implementation to increase Localstack coverage for KMS.

What’s next?

Open-source contributions don’t get over with Hacktoberfest! At LocalStack, we continue to work on our open-source projects with the goal of onboarding new contributors who are interested in supporting us on a mission to become the standard platform for local cloud development. Reach out to us on the #community channel of our LocalStack Slack Community to introduce yourself and pitch the ideas you would like to contribute!

In the coming months, we will increase our participation in other open-source programs and mentorships to give back to the community! In the meantime, we will further improve our contributors’ documentation to make it easy to contribute to LocalStack.

Conclusion

If you have participated this year in Hacktoberfest and looked forward to contributing to LocalStack (or made one!), we would love to hear your feedback to make our next Hacktoberfest even better! Navigate to our Hacktoberfest feedback survey to send us your feedback. It will only take a minute of your time, and we greatly appreciate it.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, created issues, participated in our meetups, and triaged our issues! We greatly appreciate all contributions and would appreciate seeing all our contributors sharing their LocalStack schwag, once they receive it, on their socials with the hashtag #LocalStack!

Let’s collaborate to create a superb developer experience and make cloud development fun! :rocket:
